What life history does a cow have?

The answer is now provided by the data infrastructure (DI): a web-based, individual software solution for AgroVet-Strickhof, a cooperation between the Canton of Zurich (Strickhof), ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. In this cooperation, the three institutions jointly operate an agricultural research operation. Our challenge was to develop optimal data management for different application scenarios from operations and research. This involved bundling different data sources and access rights.

We created a data infrastructure that offers a target group-oriented display of data as well as intuitive operation.

  • combines different interfaces such as SOAP, REST and CSV
  • ensures the daily automated import of all data
  • homogenizes the data as a basis for complex calculations and comprehensive evaluations
  • allows evaluations for different animal groups
  • allows various role definitions via rights management and controls the visibility of data for each interest group

The DI AgroVet-Strickhof is the central system for employees and students to work efficiently. Each user group has the necessary information about an individual animal in relation to their work context. For example, the company can see the feed consumption and weight progression of an individual animal. The researchers can manage the experiments and test results in the DI.
